UW System Fellowship
Call for Applications for 2024-2025
Deadline: Thursday, February 22, 2024
Access application information and link to digital application on the IRH fellowships
webpage: https://irh.wisc.edu/irh-fellowships/ (scroll down to “external fellowships”).
The Institute for Research in the Humanities (IRH) at the University of WisconsinMadison
is pleased to offer up to four fellowships each year to humanities faculty at University of
Wisconsin System campuses, with release time from all teaching and service for 1
semester. UWMadison will provide up to $5,000 to the home institutions of UW System
fellows visiting the IRH and the University of Wisconsin System will supplement each
fellowship awarded with an additional $7,500 to the fellow’s home institution. These funds
($12,500) are provided to the fellow’s home institution and are to be used exclusively for
defraying the cost of full teaching release and release from any non-compensated service
for one semester. Fellows are provided an IRH office space, some support services, and
access to university facilities (libraries, databases) at UWMadison. One-semester fellows
with additional funding from their home institutions are invited to remain in residence at
the IRH for the full academic year and may extend their non-stipendiary appointments at
UWMadison through the summer. However, fellowships may not be deferred.
UW System fellows are expected to participate in the intellectual life of the IRH by
attending the weekly Monday seminar (3:30 - 5:00 pm), utilizing their campus office, and
giving a seminar presentation at the IRH (schedule permitting). Fellows are also
encouraged to join the weekly afternoon teas, and other IRH events as time and interest
permit. Please consult the IRH’s website (irh.wisc.edu) for more information about other
fellowships and activities.
The IRH accepts applications from former UW System fellows after seven years from the
end date of their prior IRH fellowship. Those who were UW System fellows in the 2016-2017
season or before are eligible to apply this fall for 2024-2025 fellowships.
