Tips for Parents!
LITTLES (birth to pre-K)
Babies and young children are not yet able to read on their own.
However, research shows that TALKING, SINGING, READING, WRITING
and PLAYING every day will help them get ready for reading.
Attend Build A Reader storytimes for a fun time for your children but
also to learn more about what you can do at home to support your
child’s literacy growth.
CHILDREN (kindergarten to fifth grade)
Allow your child to check out books based on his or her interest.
When children choose what to read, the desire to read is stronger.
Encourage your child to read to you – and read to your child!
Even school-aged children enjoy the care and attention of adults
during read-alouds.
Provide your child with a comfortable, quiet place to read.
Attend fun events and programs for children at the library.
