MINWAX® PRE-STAIN WOOD CONDITIONER

Minwax® Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner is specically designed for use before staining new or bare softwood
surfaces. It penetrates the grain of the
wood to promote uniform acceptance of stain.

-etrates the pores of the wood, reducing the amount of stain the larger pores will absorb. This evens out the
absorption of stain, greatly reducing streaking and blotching.

Designed for use on any soft
or porous wood surface - Common examples include pine, r
, and spruce (soft) or
maple, alder and aspen (porous).
To determine if you are working with softwood, press your ngernail against a hidden section of the wood. If
your nail leaves an impression or dent in the wood consider using the Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. Pre-Stain
should be used to avoid an uneven stain color

ood Conditioner may be used on all wood types but
may limit or reduce the overall
stain color on hard woods and less porous wood types.
SURFACE PREPARATION:________________________________
Use on clean, raw wood surface. Remove all dust and debris using a soft cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
APPLICATION NOTES:___________________________________
1) Apply the Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner before staining on clean, raw wood, using a brush or cloth.
2) Allow the Wood Conditioner to penetrate 5-15 minutes, and then remove excess Conditioner with a
clean dry cloth.
3) The stain should be applied
within two hours of application of Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. For best
results, stain with Minwax Wood Finish, Minwax Gel Stain, Minwax Polyshades, or Minwax WoodSheen.
Note: Minwax® Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner is not recommended for use with water-based stains. For the Min-
wax Water-Based Stains, pretreat wood with the Minwax Water-Based Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner.
Note: For long-lasting protection, complete your project with Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane, Minwax
Polycrylic, or another ne Minwax protective clear nish.
Note: When using alder wood, it is recommended to let the Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner set for 2 hours before
staining.
PRECAUTIONS: Do not allow Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner to dry before staining. This will mini-

Use mineral spirits, paint thinner or turpentine. Do not store near heat, sparks, open ame or other sources of
ignition. Close container after each use. Store only in original container. Keep out of reach of children.
