Subway Car Mechanics (Car Inspectors)

MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) is the largest public transportation agency in North America and one of the

ridership of 7 Million passengers. We manage the largest subway car fleet in the world, the greatest number of
subway stations (469), and more buses than any other public transit agency in North America.
STARTING SALARY: $30.6228 per hour for a 40-hour work week, plus night differentials. Hourly rate is
subject to change

Car Inspectors maintain and repair subway cars including car body electrical, electronic, mechanical and
pneumatic equipment, truck equipment, body and truck brake rigging, electrical and pneumatic brake
equipment, subway car bodies, air conditioning and heating equipment, and electrical and electronic control
and motor equipment.
REQUIREMENTS:
Two years of full-time journey-level experience in the repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of large,
heavy- duty electromechanical, electric or electronic equipment and machinery.
The two years of journey-level experience must be preceded by either:
Graduation from a vocational high school, post-secondary trade/technical school or college with a
major in electrical, electronic, or electro-mechanical technology; or
2 years of full-time experience as a mechanic’s helper, apprentice or trainee.
