Q: WHAT IS THE SHARED APPLICATION?
A:
The shared application allows prospective students to apply to institutions within the University of
Nebraska System using one application. The shared application is a joint effort between the
University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), University of
Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), and the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) in Curtis.
Q: WHY IS THE SHARED APPLICATION HELPFUL?
A:
The shared application allows students to apply to multiple University of Nebraska System
institutions with one application and one application fee. Students will self-report their coursework
and test scores, which can lead to a more timely admission decision.
Q: WHO SHOULD USE THE SHARED APPLICATION?
A:
Prospective students who will either be a freshman or transfer, living in the state of Nebraska.
Q: WHEN SHOULD STUDENTS APPLY?
A:
Applications open on Aug. 1 of each new academic year for the following Summer/Fall Terms.
We encourage students to apply early.
Q: HOW WILL STUDENTS CREATE AN ACCOUNT?
A:
Students will establish an account at the time of application by creating a username and password.
Please note that both the username and password are case-sensitive. Students will only create an
account once. After submitting their application, students will be assigned an NUID number.

Q: WHAT IS AN NU ID NUMBER?
A:
It is an 8-digit unique student ID number assigned after applying. This will be the same for all
institutions, and will remain the same for the lifetime of the student.
Q: CAN THE APPLICATION BE SAVED AND RESUMED LATER?
A:
Yes. The application is savable. Students will need to log in using the username and password that
they created at the start of the application. Please note that both the username and password are
case sensitive.
Q: HOW CAN A STUDENT LOCATE THEIR USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
A:
The username and password are determined by the student at the start of the application.
Passwords may be reset via the “reset password” link on the login page. To locate the student’s
username, please contact the admissions office at one of the institutions they selected.
Q: DOES THE STUDENT NEED TO PAY THE $45 APPLICATION FEE AT EACH INSTITUTION?
A:
No. The application fee should only be paid once, and will be honored at each institution.
Q: WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR AN APPLICATION FEE WAIVER?
A:
Application fees may be waived for students eligible for free/reduced lunch, or active military status
and their dependents. Students should complete the applicable questions regarding their free/
reduced lunch or military/dependent status.
Q: WHEN WILL APPLICATIONS BE PROCESSED?
A:
Turnaround times vary at each institution. Students will be able to log into a portal at each
institution they apply to and to check their application status. Each school will communicate
individually with students regarding their next steps toward admission and enrollment.
Q: CAN A STUDENT MAKE CHANGES TO THEIR APPLICATION AFTER IT’S BEEN SUBMITTED?
A:
Once the student submits their application, they cannot log back in to modify it. The student may
contact the appropriate admissions office for any necessary changes.

Q: HOW DO STUDENTS SEND ACT/SAT SCORES AND TRANSCRIPTS?
A:
Initially, students will self-report their ACT/SAT scores and coursework. Official test scores must
be sent directly from the testing agency to each institution prior to enrollment. Official high school
transcripts will be required at each school the student has applied to upon the students’ graduation.
Q: WHEN IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?
A:
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln application deadline is May 1 for summer and fall applicants
and Dec. 1 for spring applicants. The University of Nebraska Omaha application deadline is Aug. 1
for fall applicants, Dec.1 for spring applicants and July 1 for summer applicants. The University
of Nebraska at Kearney and the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture do not have
application deadlines.
Q: WHAT ARE THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS?
A:
The University of Nebraska admissions requirements are as follows:
20 or higher on the ACT or ranking in the top 50 percent of the graduating class
• 16 core units must be completed:
4 units English
• 3 units math (Alg I and II and Geometry); UNL requires 4 units; the fourth unit must build
upon concepts learned in Algebra II
• 3 units of natural science
• 3 units of social science
2 units of the same foreign language
• 1 academic elective from anything within the core area (UNK & UNO)
Students that do not meet the assured admission requirements may still be eligible for admission by
review. Please contact the appropriate admission office for more information.
Q: WHAT ARE THE SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS?
A:
Scholarships vary by campus. Please see each institution’s scholarship website for more information
and deadlines.

Q: WHY DO THE MAJORS DIFFER FOR EACH INSTITUTION?
A:
Carefully review what each institution offers in your academic area of interest before submitting
your application. Contact the respective office of admissions for additional major information.
Q: WHAT IF THE STUDENT IS HAVING TECHNICAL ISSUES?
A:
The recommended browser is Mozilla Firefox. It is not recommended to use a phone or tablet. Be
sure all required fields are completed. If you continue to experience issues, contact the admissions
office at one of the institutions.
Q: WHAT IS THE PERSONAL STATEMENT AND DO STUDENTS NEED TO COMPLETE IT?
A:
The personal statement applies only to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and is used for additional
scholarship opportunities. This may be completed at the time of the application or submitted later
via the students MyRED account. The personal statement is due by Jan. 15. Students should still
submit their application in the event they do not have their personal statement ready at the time
they apply.
SELF-REPORTED COURSEWORK
It is important that students report their high school coursework accurately. This information is used for
admission and scholarship consideration.
